Chongqing Research Institute has made progress in self-supporting graphene oxide nanocomposite forward osmosis membranes

Recently, the Institute of Membrane Technology and Application Engineering of the Chongqing Institute of Green Intelligent Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences has made progress in self-supporting graphene oxide nanocomposite forward osmosis membranes. The relevant research results were published in Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochem. Eng. Aspects, the topic of High water permeable free-standing cellulose triacetate/grapheme oxide membrane with enhanced antibiofouling and mechanical properties for forward osmosis.

Concentration difference polarization and membrane fouling are difficulties in the practical application of forward osmosis membrane technology. Changing the membrane surface and support structure can improve the performance of the forward osmosis membrane. In this study, self-supporting graphene nanocomposite forward osmosis membranes were developed using graphene and triacetate fibers as composite membrane materials. The results of the study showed that the composite membrane has stable mechanical properties; it can reduce the resistance caused by the inner concentration polarization, increase the membrane flux and retention rate, and can effectively reduce biological pollution and improve recovery. The results of this study provide data support and theoretical basis for the development of new forward osmosis membrane materials.
